Starting Westwood Builders wasn’t part of a carefully planned roadmap. In fact, it’s the result of a winding journey filled with uncertainty, failed ventures, and moments of discovery. Looking back, every twist and turn played a role in shaping the company we are today.
From Engineering School to Uncertainty
Right after leaving engineering school, I found myself at a crossroads. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but one thing was clear: I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I craved the challenge and independence that came with building something of my own. What I didn’t have was a clear direction.
A Series of False Starts
My early attempts at entrepreneurship were, to put it lightly, learning experiences. I tried my hand at various ventures, from becoming a realtor to working as a personal trainer. Each of these efforts taught me something, but none of them stuck. They were short-lived and ultimately ended in failure. During these times, I often had to fall back on construction work to pay the bills. Little did I know, these jobs would eventually become the foundation of my future.
Discovering a Passion for Construction
Working in construction started as a necessity but grew into something much more. I began as a superintendent’s assistant, learning the ropes of the industry while gaining hands-on experience. Over time, I realized that not only did I enjoy the work, but I also had a natural aptitude for it. The skills I had picked up—combined with the engineering knowledge from my school days—gave me a solid foundation in the field.
Unlike my other endeavors, construction felt different. It was challenging but rewarding, and I found a deep sense of satisfaction in creating something tangible and lasting. After three years of working for other people, the idea of starting my own business in construction began to take shape.
The Birth of Westwood Builders
When I finally decided to take the leap, I started small. Westwood Builders began as a subcontracting business, taking on all kinds of jobs to get off the ground. I built fences, handled trim carpentry, installed siding, and worked on framing projects. These early days were tough, but they were also incredibly fulfilling. Each job taught me something new and reinforced my belief that I was on the right path.
Building a Foundation for the Future
What started as a necessity evolved into a passion, and that passion turned into a purpose. Westwood Builders was born out of hard work, persistence, and a willingness to learn from failure. Today, we specialize in remodels, new construction, and additions, but our roots will always be in those early projects where every nail and board represented a step forward.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the journey that led me here. The failed ventures, the uncertainty, and the construction jobs in between all played a role in shaping Westwood Builders. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of doing work you truly believe in.
Westwood Builders isn’t just a business to me—it’s a testament to the idea that sometimes, the path to success isn’t a straight line but a series of lessons that guide you to where you’re meant to be.
